"... Carbonite online backup service is one of the best entries in this arena.
This is the online backup service that I use. When one of my hard drives crashed less than a year ago, I was devastated. It was the first time I experienced this and was unsure how to go about recovering my data…until I remembered that I was using Carbonite. See…I had forgotten all about it, at least for about 2 minutes. Realizing that I had a set up a lifeline for myself, I began looking at the settings in my Carbonite and located the Recovery area. So easy! It took hours to get it all recovered, but at least everything was there. Relief! Joy! Exhiliration! That is the best money I’ve ever spent."

"... Now knowing restores take so long, you may consider just using Carbonite for selected files. If you have high-speed connection, the restore should be O.K. My bread and butter files were restored pretty quick (desktop and documents)."

" ... I screwed up a major project file today. A HUGE, project. It took me all of 5 minutes to log onto Carbonite.com and restore the file that was saved, automatically, the last time I worked on it. Instead of losing days and pages of creative, one-of-a-kind work...I lost an hour.
Hate to sound like a commercial...but, after today I REALLY believe in this service."

"We use carbonite here at our family run business. We love it. It does as promised. I guess there is a concern over your data being saved on someone elses servers. I guess it comes down to personal preference. I would recommend
Carbonite for backing up files offsite.
We have had no issues with them at all. I hope this helps."

"... What I like is that Carbonite is for total non-techies like me—it brings up a screen that looks EXACTLY like your desktop, you click on what you want to restore, and boom, it’s done. Could not be simpler."

"... I stumbled on Carbonite, compared it to the competition, test-drove a few of them, and I’m done, it’s settled, I’m backed up online, all the time, no worries, no hassles, no baby pictures lost to the cyber vacuum."

"I lost my entire hard drive without backup. Fortunately, I had upgraded my computer about a year ago, so I was able to upload the year old info on the old computer, but I lost everything else. What a pain in the back-side! I am finally back up and was able to reconstruct most of what I lost, but many creative files and downloads are gone.
When I saw the Carbonite offer, I tried it for a couple of weeks on their free trial and then purchased a year's worth of coverage. It is cheap insurance in my opinion."

"I use it (Carbonite) on a Mac ... I have over 100 GB backed up right now. I have already had to rescue one file. It was easy and I didn’t have to restore the entire drive like some of these services. I encrypt sensitive data on my drive even though it is encrypted as it is transferred and when it is stored. I compared 6 or so services and liked the price and ease of restore (one file at a time or the whole disk). Remember however, they are all going to take a LONG time to do the initial BU. 100GB took about a month."

"First issue you will run up againt is Carbonite does NOT backup external drives. Because they are flat fee and they dont charge you by the megabyte they want to prevent anyone from attaching mutiple USB drives to their PC backing them up and them swapping them out for more.
The drive has to be attached via an IDE channel. So no Flash Drives, USB Drives, Firewire drives etc.
Other than that its pretty good."

"Thank God for Carbonite! I have had Carbonite online backup software installed on my computer for two years now. In that time I have had two catastrophic computer failures (practically all data lost from the hard drive) and yet I have not lost any of that data ... I am a very very very very happy user of Carbonite who is currently enjoying the benefits of his $50/year subscription. I have all my files even from minutes prior to the computer crash. That is the test of a good backup utility. Carbonite passes with flying colors. I haven't found a single file that I needed that wasn't backup up."

"I have been using Carbonite. I also back up to an external hard drive. Carbonite backs up everything and then does incremental backups. Carbonite has good software and starts to backup a file 10 minutes after it is changed. It is fixed price. It will not backup external hard drives."

"I have used Carbonite since January and I am quite happy with it.
I have not (thankfully) needed to restore any files, yet. But, the backups are smooth and silk as the interface is excellent."

"It also throttles the amount of files it will upload during that first massive backup of files, so it took me days and days for that first load. Otherwise, it is super easy and may be a reasonable option for others with fewer files than me (or faster computers)"

"18 months ago I took advantage of their 15 day offer advertised by Rush. 13 days into the trial my hard drive failed. Replaced the drive and recovered my data, just as advertised. No problems, no lost files. Without Carbonite, color me screwed. I’m a believer."

"I've never tried Mozy but absolutely love Carbonite! At the time I bought it, though, it was for two reasons--Carbonite had a 15-day free trial and the two-year subscription was cheaper than Mozy."
